Meeting and Greeting in Houston
A $67.4 million redesign at the St. Regis Houston in 2011 included refreshing the Astor Ballroom and function space to continue the legacy of uncompromising tradition and artistic detail. The newly designed and expanded spaces offer guests a flexible and elegant interior landscape, providing a flawless backdrop for Houston’s high-profile events for both business and pleasure. The venue accommodates up to 300 guests, and the ballroom’s classroom-style meeting capacity has been expanded to accommodate 200 attendees with the support of eight breakout rooms.

Joining the Cougar Village, which has been available since summer 2011, the University of Houston’s Moody Towers and Quadrangle also underwent renovations in 2011. Moody Towers now features rooms with new movable furniture and community bathrooms as well as lounges for group gatherings or community programming on each floor. The Quadrangle’s five buildings feature suite arrangements with semiprivate baths as well as communal lounge areas. Optional services include linen packages, telephone and Internet and dining in addition to its meeting and classroom spaces.

Venues with a brew
Local craft beers are very popular, and so are brewery spaces and other craft beer–focused establishments. Houston boasts Texas’ oldest craft brewery as well as a host of others new and old that offer up their spaces for private events.

Named for the patron saint of brewers, Houston’s Saint Arnold Brewing Company is Texas’ oldest craft brewery, offering 11 varieties of world-class beer for customers that appreciate great, full-flavored beers with soul. The brewery has two rental spaces for corporate groups, fundraisers and other special events. The German-style Tour Hall seats up to 280, and the Investors Pub holds 100. Events range from casual to formal for groups from 25 to 300. Saint Arnold provides bartenders and all the Saint Arnold beer you want. Outside food and nonalcoholic beverage catering is permitted, but outside alcohol is not. Pricing depends on date the and headcount, and rentals run between two and three hours.

Although not a craft brewery itself, the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium is certainly one of craft beer’s biggest fans. At any given time, Flying Saucer offers a superior selection of more than 200 unique beers from craft breweries all over the county and the world. Both of Flying Saucer’s Houston-area locations offer up private event spaces for your booking needs. The downtown Houston location features a loft area that can be rented for up to 80 people while the brand-new nearby Sugar Land location has a private room off its main space that comfortably can seat 40–50 guests.

Former home of the Houston Ice & Brewing Company founded in 1892, the Historic Magnolia Brewery Building is now an elegant venue for special events of all kinds. Completed in 1893, this historic building now registered as a historic landmark features a ballroom space with an oak dance floor and a spacious covered balcony overlooking Buffalo Bayou Park. Although no longer a working brewery, the space rental includes use of its sound system and lights as well as a dedicated special events planner. Assorted catering options also are available.
